Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also an accomplished public speaking. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate women about their roles in pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. The site also has the executive director. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding sexual harassment and attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is determined to break the stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in social thought and politics at York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young time. In 2009, when she was in university, she created the Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch an internet series that examined gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of a harassment campaign online. She was not deterred by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feministism.
